Motherwell swooped for the signature of Gordon Mair in 1986 and signed him from English club Lincoln City. Born in nearby Bothwell in December 1958, Gordon was a slightly built winger, who had pace in abundance and could deliver useful crosses, but his biggest issue was that he was far too inconsistent with his performances and because of that the ‘Well fans dubbed him ‘Nightmair’. Gordon wasn’t to far off making almost a century of first team matches at Fir Park, from Lanarkshire he went to Clydebank in 1990, and then former ‘Well defender George Burley signed him for Ayr United, in 1994 he hung up his boots.
