Son of former Celtic and Barnsley midfielder Owen Archdeacon, Mark progressed through the youth system at Fir Park. Despite showing great promise in the youth and reserve side he just couldn’t break into the first team. As the squad was threadbare at the beginning of the 2009/10 season he got a few opportunities and made his debut as a substitute as Motherwell played Welsh side Llanelli in the Europa League. As new manager Jim Gannon brought in many new faces, Mark seemed to drift away entirely from the first team picture, before being sent out on loan to Brechin City. The youngster would be released at the end of the season. He would re-join Brechin City soon thereafter.
