Tom Aldred

A commanding centre back, Tom Aldred arrived at Motherwell on loan from Bury in January 2018 to provide competition with Peter Hartley and Cédric Kipré. Hartley however suffered injury thus allowing Aldred to quickly cement a place in the side. However it was perhaps worrying as when he made his debut in a fourth round Scottish Cup tie versus Hamilton, he suffered an injury in the first half of the game but thankfully it wasn’t serious and he returned to action swiftly, he proved to be a consistent performer as not only did he help the club go on a magnificent run in the Scottish Cup which helped the side reach the final but his performances during the 2017/18 season ranked him as the top defender outside Celtic for tackles won.

Aldred quickly became a fans favourite as he had that old style no nonsense approach. He scored his first goal for the club on the last day of the season in a 3-0 victory over Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton.

Tom returned to the club on loan for a second spell the following season much to the delight of the Fir Park faithful.

Prior to arriving at Fir Park, Tom had a brief spell in Scotland with Inverness CT in 2011 where he played under former ‘Well boss Terry Butcher. Perhaps one of his career highlights was to help Blackpool to win promotion to League One in 2017 via the playoff system. Despite being born in Bolton, he has represented Scotland at U19 level.
