It was in 1941 when Motherwell signed inside-forward Charles Robertson, he came straight from Junior side Armadale Thistle. Sadly for him he had the misfortune of being at the club when Jimmy Watson and Gordon Bremner were the first team regulars and barred his route into the first team.
Charlie was released in 1950, like many other footballers of the same time period his career was interrupted by the outbreak of war. While completing his national service he was stationed in Belgium, he turned out as a guest for Standard Leige where he was nicknamed ‘Le Diable Rouge’ due to his red hair and aggressive playing style. Despite representing Motherwell for a significant amount of time he made just over twenty official first team appearances.
