Connor Ripley

Son of former England, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Stuart Ripley, Connor was a talented young goalkeeper who joined Motherwell on a seasons long loan deal from his hometown club on the eve of the 2015/16 season.

Ripley was immediately installed as first choice keeper and proved to be a fantastic shot stopper. Tall, imposing and quite agile he was perhaps the best goalie to represent the club since the departure of Darren Randolph a number of year prior. Connor made his debut on the opening day of the season in a 1-0 victory over Inverness CT, the young stopper would make 40 first team appearances for the club in all competitions in a successful loan spell which seen the club secure a mid table finish. As expected with young players he make a few errors during over his time with the side but he developed well over the season.

The following season, Ripley joined up with Oldham Athletic on loan who were managed by former duo Stephen Robinson and Ian Baraclough who had signed him for Motherwell, due to a number of fine performances he would go on to win the Player of the Year award with the Latics. It looked like he had performed that well that he would finally get his chance at Middlesbrough after their relegation from the English Premiership, but they eventually signed former ‘Well favourite Darren Randolph from West Ham United for £5 million and installed him as the new number one.

Connor had also been capped at England U19 and U20 level.
