Signed by Alex McLeish at the start of the 1997/98 campaign, he came along with another Austrian by the name of Mario Dorner. In the pre-season it looked a good move by McLeish, Resch was a lively right back, quick off the mark with tackles and he was quite quick at going forward to help support attacking moves.
After only five starts for the club he was told, along with Dorner he was being released. It seemed somewhat bizarre as McLeish had become embroiled in a battle over compensation issues with his former club and after months of trying to get the duo in his squad they were dropped quickly. The duo headed south to join Third Division English side Darlington.
