Born in Chesterfield, Gordon Robinson was an inside forward who had begun his career at Bramble Lane with Sheffield United. He joined Motherwell in 1951, though his spell at Fir Park he had little opportunity in the first team as manager George Stevenson had a settled side. Robinson would depart Lanarkshire in 1953 after the club was relegated, he made nine first team appearances scoring three goals.
