Trevor Molloy

Trevor MolloyTrevor Molloy was signed in January 2007 from St Patricks Athletic and he came along with Paul Keegan for an undisclosed fee. Manager Maurice Malpas liked his options from the Irish League as he also snapped up highly rated Danny Murphy making it a trio of signings. A tricky winger who also enjoyed playing in a striker role, Trevor had a decent grounding in the game having played for the likes of Bohemians, Shelbourne and of course St Pats Athletic. His claim to fame in Ireland was actually in helping Bohemians win the FAI Cup and League, not to mention scoring the winner against Aberdeen at Pittodrie which knocked the Dons out of the Uefa Cup in 2000.

Within days of joining Motherwell, Trevor was pitched straight into the squad to face Rangers, he would make his debut as a substitute but sadly the side fell to a 1-0 defeat. As the season progressed, the side struggled and appearances for Molloy were limited to the bench, in fact the only start he would make would be in the Scottish Cup against rivals Airdrie United. As the 2006/07 season ended his appearances stood at one start and seven sub appearances with no goals scored. The management changed over the summer of 2007 and new gaffer Mark McGhee made it clear he wasn’t in the first team plans and in October 2007 he left by mutual consent. In December he would return to Ireland to join Glenavon.

Perhaps worth mentioning thought in a Pre-Season friendly against Dundee at Dens Park, Trevor scored with a stunning strike which was hit with some venom before crashing off the bar and into the net, the small band of ‘Well fans who made the journey were indeed treated to something special. It was a shame the club didn’t reap the benefits of that more often.
